A complete and accurate count in the 2010 Census is important to the City of Phoenix. For each person counted, Phoenix gets $400 in federal and state funding for community services and agencies.
So your participation will mean the difference in thousands of dollars to Phoenix over the next 10 years. Multiply that by your neighbors' responses, and that adds up to millions of dollars -- which mean more than ever in these tough economic times.
However, our citywide response rate to the 2000 Census was just 63 percent -- compared to the national response rate of 67 percent.
That's why Phoenix's goal is to improve our response rate to the 2010 Census. And why we're counting on members of our community to help.
The business, faith, minority, media and education communities are represented by nearly 200 residents serving on the 2010 Complete Count Committee.
Members of the Complete Count Committee are appointed by Mayor Phil Gordon and the Phoenix City Council.
This group is an important partner to the City of Phoenix to help everyone in our community know the facts about all the good the census does for our city.
