Twenty-one city of Phoenix Sister Cities Youth Ambassadors are hosting more than 20 students from Phoenix’s nine sister cities for two weeks.
The students will join in a community service project at St. Mary’s Food Bank, 3131 W. Thomas Road, from 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, July 27. Called the “Rock N Box” event, the students will pack boxes while a DJ plays live music.
Other activities planned for the international students include a visit to the Phoenix Zoo, Arizona Science Center, Grand Canyon and an Arizona Diamondbacks game. Special activities include an American Teenager Day, Thanksgiving dinner and talent show, and a Mexican farewell fiesta and pool party to offer the students an Arizona/American experience.
The international students from the nine sister cities hosted the Phoenix youth ambassadors during the month of June sharing their culture and lifestyle. Phoenix’s sister cities include Calgary, Canada; Catania, Italy; Chengdu, China; Ennis, Ireland; Grenoble, France; Hermosillo, Mexico; Himeji, Japan; Ramat-Gan, Israel; and Taipei, Taiwan.
Many friendships are created among the students and their host families that have continued long after the students have returned to their own countries.
